Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine help, briggs and stratton, needle valve

Question
I have a Briggs and Stratton engine model # 136212 I have only been able to start it one time by adding gas directly into the engine so the spark plug is working. I have taken the carburetor off and cleaned it and also cleaned out the gas tank. After asking another guy on this site I followed his steps but it hasn't seemed to help. By his diagnoses the problem is the fuel not making it to the engine. (I am sorry I can't explain any better) PLEASE HELP!

Answer
Hi Nic
The info you received is correct about the fuel not getting to the engine. Not knowing what you were told let me start by saying to make sure all jets and ports are open and that all gaskets and the diaphragm are in good shape. Remove the jet that is under the needle valve and make sure it is open as well as the metering holes beneath it and check the screens on the long pump pipe and on the short carb pipe. Hope this helps.
