QUESTION: Ok, me and my friend are going to take my old lawn tractor a sears 10 hp and 36 inch deck and the fram model is 917 253 131 and I can't find any data on it nothing and i need help finding a manual for it.

Also when i go to start it. it doesn't start it like wants to go but just never fully turns on it gets like its going but just stops after a while. any help?

ANSWER: Re-check the mower model number.  The model number you provided, 917 253 131, is for a Sears electric 3-point hitch.  Did you find the model number on a sticker under the seat or rear fender of the mower?

Based on the Sears Parts Direct websit your engine is roughly a 1977 model.  The engine is a Tecumseh VM100 or similar number.  Getting the engine to start may take some work.  First, remove the spark plug and check for spark.  If you have spark then the points are good.  If no spark, you need to fix this first.  Also, with the spark plug removed and checking for spark, will the starter spin the engine?
