Question
QUESTION: How do I change the steering shaft on my Huskee mower, model #407777, serial number 030116Y6 part #738-0919. I can't seem to get to the screw on the botom of shaft to losen it.

ANSWER: John

Please give me the model number and serial of the tractor.  You have a MTD product.  The model number will be located under the seat.  The number you gave me is of the engine.

I need to take at a look of an illustrated parts list before I can help you further

You could attach a digital picture and that would help too.

Answer
You need to remove your deck from your tractor.  (NOT FUN)

You need to turn your wheels either all the way to the left or all the way to the right, you will then be able to see the bolt through the access hole that is in the steering gear.

WARNING.. This job is not fun and is labor intensive.  It may be worth checking with your local dealer to see if they have a dedicated lawn tractor hoist and hire this job out.  This job will take about an hour or less with a hoist.

Hope this helps.

Great day!
