Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Vanguard 21 hp Carburetor, needle valve, blow air

Question
I suspect I have a bad Carburetor Float Needle Valve. I put a new air filter, spark plugs, and it ran like new for a few hours. Now it is blowing black smoke, has little power, and the plugs are fouled black. Can I order just the valve? I cannot find one anywhere on the net. Engine # 385777-0349-E1.

Answer
809759, Valve-Float Needle

Sounds like the carbuetor is running too rich.  Usually a leaky needle valve will not cause the problem.  More likely there is a partially plugged carb orfice.

Have you removed, dis-assembled and cleaned the carburetor with compressed air from an air compressor?  Set the compressor regualtor around 20 PSI and blow air through all the carburetor orfices.

Let me know if cleaning the carburetor solves you problem.
