Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler engine will not start, craftsman riding mower, loose ground

Question
I have a Kohler CV15s 41525 on a craftsman riding mower.  The engine will not start unless starting fluid or gas is used directly in the carburetor.  The engine then dies once this fuel is gone.  I have checked the fuel lines and found no blockage.  I took the fuel line loose from the carburetor and turned the engine over and gas was pumping out so I assume the carburetor is getting fuel.  Since it will start with gas or starting fluid I assume that the spark is ok.

Answer
Does the engine have a fuel shut-off solenoid?  You can tell by looking at the carburetor.  If there are any wires running to the carburetor then you have a fuel shut-off solenoid, often referred to as an anti-afterfire solenoid.

Make sure the solenoid is receiving 12 volts DC when the key is in the run position.  Check for a loose ground as well.

Let me know what you find.
