Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): McLane Mower - convert belt drive to chain drive?, emerald zoysia grass, reel mower

Question
I have a McLane 20" 7-blade self-propelled reel mower with a B&S engine.

I have Emerald Zoysia grass in my back yard which is quite thick. The reel quite often gets stuck trying to cut through the grass. I have sharpened the blades etc...

I was wondering if the culprit in the design is the belt drive that is unable to spin the reel when the cutting gets difficult for the mower.

Is it possible to replace the belt drive with a chain drive? Would that help?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Dan

Answer
Have you tried adjusting the knife on the real?  I have not seen any "kits" to convert from belt to chain drive but you may be able to find an old, wore out chain drive model and borrow parts.

What is the model number of your mower?  I can look to see if there are any kits.
