Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): cub cadet tractor, bearing retainer, drive pulley

Question
im tryin to get this cub mowing ready again. has been stored for a while and in the outdoors. got it running by cleaning the carb and replcing the magneto coil. i took of the deck cauase one of the deck lifters was snapped off. not a big deal some grinding cutting and welding. then i just drove it a litle to give it a test and when i turned on the pto and i didnt hear it kick on i looked under to see if it was turnning and it was in the on or off position. when i flip the switch on or off sometimes it makes a little banging or clicking noise. im not famillar with how the eletrical pto and not sure how to fix it. im not even really sure if the pto shaft with the pulley on it that the belt goes on is suppose to stop spinning in the off position. any help would be great

Answer
Hello Stephen, I will begin with the belts, you should have two belts, one for the transmission which engages the PTO'S drive pulley and the other belt which engages the mower deck,or accessory attachment. Look carefully and see what belt goes to what. For the noise it might be your pto clutch which is separate from your tractor's drive clutch. Your on off switch is not making a contact which means you might have a ignition switch problem. What I would do because the cub has been in storage for a while,is clean all the parts, grease etc,.Even grease your bearing's where the bearing retainer is. Do a good preventative maintenance on it.
