Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Huskee lawn mower, twin cylinder engine, starter solenoid

Question
I had asked a question and it said the expert was nolonger available to answer for a follow up this was the question and answer:
Question   I'm working on a huskee lawn mower it has a 22 horse twin cylinder engine. When you turn the key it does nothing no clicking or anything. I have put a new starter, solenoid, ignition switch, and battery it. Still nothing. When i tested it there is power going as it should until it gets to the solenoid it stops there coming back from the ignition. i have tried 2 different ones and still cannot get power to continue from there. Any ideas? Thanks Cody

Answer   First, did you check the fuse?  It should be hanging in the wiring next to the steering shaft or against the flywheel.  A few are under the frame in the rear of the mower, above the transaxle.

If the fuse is okay, what is the voltage at the battery, at the battery side of the solenoid and at the key switch side of the solenoid when the key is turned to start?

The answer to the questions are, Yes i checked the fuses there are 2 and they are both good. The voltage is 12 volts at the battery. It is also 12volts at the key switch and when you turn the key it is sending 12 volts back to the solenoid. but 0 volts coming out of the solenoid. any suggestions? Thank you, Cody

Answer
Hello Cody, it is definitely a electrical problem. One of my teachers told me once when I was in electric class too make electric problems easy. What he told me was there are only 4 major problems to electric work: Open circuit(no electrical will flow); Short to ground (fuse will blow most of the time); Short to voltage (cross wires); (high resistance) (low amount of amperes). It sounds like you have an open no current is flowing check the part and replace it if there is no current going to it. Happy decision making!
