Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Enginer repower, crankshaft size, v twin

Question
I have a snapper 3317523bve rer.  It works great!  but, i'd like to have a better motor for exended life, fuel economy, less heat/wear, power.  so i'm thinking about switching from a 17.5 B&S 1 cyl to a 18 vanguard B&S v-twin. My 17.5 is a 9 amper and the Van is 16 amp regulated.  It will cost me the price of an engine and a muffler.  I do like the noise level of the 17.5 motor-loud. Will this be too much engine for the rer or a good fit?

Answer
I would think you will have a hard time fitting it on there, finding
and routing a muffler, finding an engine with the right crankshaft
size, etc.

Also when sitting the mower up on it's rear will cause problems there as well, but  where there is a will there is a way, but I would definitely study on it quite a bit.
