Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere SRX75 surging throttle, lawn mower parts briggs & Stratton model number discountonlineparts lawnmower parts John Deere

Question
My SRX75 surges on idle (even at full throttle but it's not as noticable). I removed the air cleaner and housing and observed the throttle cable movement.  There's a smaller cable running to the carb, this one "wobbles" and movement of the throttle lever only seems to effect this at 3/4 to full throttle.  I suspect some linkage/spring is out of adjustment but I don't know.  So far all I've done is clean the area and observe.  I sprayed carb cleaner straight into the throat and added some SeaFoam to the gas.  Any thoughts appreciated.  I'll tear into it deeper but would prefer to have a target!  I believe it's a Kohler engine?

Answer
Hi Jeff, the smaller spring is a governed Idle spring, and there is really no adjustment. In these days of E P A rated engines surging is normal sorry to say. There is little if anything that can be done. Slight air screw adjustment can sometimes help, but most carbs now are really not adjustable.  Next time when you need any lawn mower parts please let us know at http://www.discountonlineparts.com/lawnmower/
