Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): primer bulb not working, briggs carburetor, briggs primer

Question
QUESTION: I have a MTD Yard Machines model #11A-414C062 21" push lawn mower I purchased from Wal-Mart in 2000. The primer bulb does not work. There doesn't seem to be any holes in it. I have searched online and every parts diagram that shows for this model is not the appearance of my mower. According to one site, the engine is a B&S 4.0 hp 10A902-2189-E1.
Is the primer bulb replaceable? I guess I could always use a spray bottle and spray gas into the carb to get it started.
Thanks for your help.

ANSWER: On the engine will be a model and type number.  It should be stamped into the flywheel shroud.  If you can give me those numbers I can get you the part number.

Will the engine run if you prime it with a little gas or starting fluid?  Thanks, PK.

QUESTION: Yes, the engine runs if I squirt gas into it.
Engine # 10A902
Type: 2189 E1
Code: 99050755

I don't see how the bulb can be replaced, though.
But you probably know more than me.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
The primer, or syringe, is removed by pressing in on the two tabs on the side of the primer.  You can either stick a flathead screwdriver into the little slots on the side of the carb body or in beside the ring that holds it in.  If you'd like to see the exploded diagram you can see it at grandjunctionsmallengines.com.  Just click the parts list tab and then from the Quick Part Lookup choose Briggs and Stratton then enter the part number, 694394, in the "search for" box and there will be a blow-up of the primer in the carburetor parts list.

To install the new one, just line up the tabs with the notches in the carb body and snap it in.
