Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S Model 19G412 motor for a Coleman Gen. will not start., starter cord, compression tester

Question
I have spark, new gas, Fuel filter is clean, I found bowl for carb. bone dry. Oil is full.  Will not start with Starter fluid.

Answer
Do you have spark?  Is the fuel shut-off vavle turned off?  How long has the engine sat?

When you pull the string, does the engine have compression?  A trick, if you do not have a compression tester, is to remove the spark plug and place your thumb over the spark plug hole while you pull the starter cord.  The comperssion should "pop" your thumb off the spark plug hole.

If the generator sat a while the intake valve can sometimes stick causing no compression.  If you have spark and the engine will not start with starting fluid sprayed directly in the carb then most likely a valve is stuck.

Let me know what you find.
