Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler 19 hp stalls {smoke and gas }, spark plug gap, oil mixture

Question
I have a craftsman lt-2000 tractor 2005 and engine stalls and alot of smoke and gas coming out of pipe, same problem as brian { 7-27-08 } read your responce howard was wondering what brian found with his kohler problem on oil and smoke. Have fuel coming out of pipe with alot of smoke cut it be a carb problem { solenoid etc. } Hope not a head problem.

Answer
Hi Joey,

Your question is about the stalling and the smoke (& gas)? Correct?

I think the problem sounds like it could be a combination of things.

1. Check if  the gas oil mixture is properly set. A abundance of smoke means that there is (possibly)too much oil in the mix.

2.  Check if the carburetor mixture screw is set properly (could be too rich or too lean).

3. Check your exhaust ports.

I am wondering if you might have a leak in one of the fuel lines?

Stalling:

Check cap to see if it is venting properly. Check air filter not clogged.  Check the ignition points.  Check the spark plug & gap.  Check that all the wiring is secure.

I hope this helps.

Howard B.
