Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&s 123k02-0193-e1 lawnmower, loose screws, brass screw

Question
I'm helping my neighbor fix his mower. the problem is it run for a second then stops. if i spray carb cleaner in the carb it will run. i cleaned the bottom of the carb and float. what else could it be? Thanks Robert

Answer
Hi Robert,
Check the brass screw that holds the bowl on. It should have a tiny hole in the center. Use a small tip cleaner or stiff wire to make sure that hole is clean. That's that main fuel jet for the carb. Be careful not to enlarge it any as this will cause to much fuel to be metered to the engine. I have had to soak the jet in cleaner to get all the varnish out. If this doesn't work you can check the tube the carb attaches to. Check for cracks or loose screws were it attaches to the block. Hope this helps,
Keith
