Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S lawnmover. Oil over filled, exhaust gasket, combustion chamber

Question
then mover would not start. Drained oil, removed sp plug and turned over engine. Cylinder pushed out oil. Dried plug and replaced. Still no start. Oil is dripping from muffler. What do I do next?  tks, pa

Answer
The reason the crankcase was overfilled was that your carburetor was flooding.  The inland needle was not seating to shut off the fuel flow carburetor then flooded and the gas ran into the crankcase has this happened crankcase filled the space between the top of the piston and cylinder head, the combustion chamber.  The first thing to do is take the carburetor apart and clean it thoroughly and if the inlet needle is damaged at all replaced the needle and seat.  Next fill with oil or new spark plug and and start the engine the engine will smoke excessively until the oil that was in the combustion chamber and the muffler is burned.  To avoid this you would have to remove the cylinder head white out the oil put a new head gasket and and put the head back on them remove the muffler and wash it out with hot soapy water and let it dry and put it back on with a new exhaust gasket.  I hope this information helps you out.
