Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Engine, drive sprocket, hp engine

Question
How do I adjust the governor on a tecumseh 6.5 hp engine to SLOW down a go kart? Or is there another way to slow it down?

Answer
Hello David:

I am Assuming the Cart Ground Speed is Simply too Fast and you wish to Lower the Ground Speed, but the Governor is Operating Correctly. If this is Correct, then Change the Governor Control Spring. This is the Spring that Pulls the Governor Arm when the Throttle is Depressed. The Weaker the Spring the Lower the Engines Max RPMs. To Slow Ground Speed, you are Supposed to Change the Drive Sprocket on the Carts Drive Axle. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
