Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): briggs and strat 14.5 287707 again, solenoid, happy holiday

Question
hello. we had spoken before about this engine and wiring it up. just to make sure. when i want it to run the ignition coil should not be grounded and the carbeuretor solenoid will be hot. when it is off it should be the opposite? correct? but when i wire it up the carbeuretor solenoid will not move until i ground out the ignition coil at the same time. any ideas?

Answer
Hi Nathan:

I Remember you. I Hope All is Well with you and yours. Check the Ground for the Engine. Ground the Engine Using a Seperate Wire from the Engine Block to the Frame. From your Description it Sounds like the Carburetor Solenoid is Grounding through the Coil Shut Off Wire. You are Correct in your Explaination of How the System Operates. The Coil is Not Grounded to Fire the Plug and Grounded to Stop the Plug from Firing. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
