Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 160, nevan, hi john

Question
Hi John, my JD 160 will not start. I replaced the battery and that helped for about 2 days. If I jump it it runs for about half an hour then the blades disengage and I have to turn it off and re jump it to get everything running again. Any help would be great.

Answer
Hello Nevan:

You Need to Repair the Charging System on the Engine. The Battery is Not being Kept Charged and when the Voltage Get Below 10.5 VDC the PTO Kicks Off and on Some Mowers the Engine Quits because the Carburetor Solenoid Closes Due to Not Enough Voltage and this Shuts Off the Gas Flow to the Carburetor Jet. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers 160 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. Select the Engine File and then Select the Electrical File. The Stator (Charging Coil) is Shown as #12 in the Breakdown and this is the Unit that Requires Replacing. There is No Voltage Regulator on this Engine. The Stator (JD Part #AM101067) is Bad and Requires Replacing to Keep the Battery Charged. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
