Steering Column Repair: loose gear shift on colum ford f-150 year 2000, ford steering column, ford f 150

The red needle indicator does not line up right in the truck for the gear or position the truck is in, sometimes cant get it into 'park" and then you cant start the truck, how is this fixed and how much time and does it take alot of tools?  is there a website that shows illistrations on how to fix this issue?

Although the example is for a different vehicle than yours, the column is identical to yours (tilt and non tilt use the same housing)
