Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan Pro Blower/Vac, arinet, marvel mystery oil

Question
QUESTION: I've owned the blower for about 3 years now and have had a pretty good experience.

Yesterday, after running out of gas as I was doing the leaves, I put plain unleaded gas in the tank rather than the mixed gas. The machine ran for about two minutes and then stopped. After realizing what I did, I emptied the gas out but the cord is locked.

Is there anything that I can do to fix the problem or am I looking at a big repair bill?

Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Hello Colin:

Remove the Muffler. Look Into the Exhaust Port and Inspect the Piston and Cylinder. If the Piston and Cylinder Sides are like Glass, then Some Marvel Mystery Oil will Usually Loosen the Rings from the Cylinder/Jug. If the Piston and Cylinder/Jug is Scratched and Gouged, then the Engine is Trashed. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram and Select the Catalog Poulan/Weed Eater. Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,

Thanks a lot for your help. I took the muffler off today and looked at the piston and it looks pretty good. It is pretty far in there but from what I can tell, and I am a total rookie, it looks pretty clean. I cannot pull the piston out, as I wasn't sure if I should.

I took your advice and got the Marvel Mystery Oil and after removing the spark plug, I put it in the hole (chamber). Hopefully, that is what I was suppose to do. I am going to let it sit over night and attempt to work on it tomorrow.

Prior to get the Marvel, I tried to pull on the cord and there was no movement.

Please tell me what you think. I would be happy to email you pictures if that would help.

Again, thank you for all of your help.

ANSWER: Hello Again Colin:

You have Done All you can for Now. If the Marvel Mystery Oil Does Not Loosen the Rings from the Piston, then you May have to COnsider the Engine Trashed. Keep me Updated, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,

Due to the fact that this isn't my field of expertise, I wanted to ask you a few questions for clarification so I know what to look for.

1. Do I empty the Marvel oil out? If so, do I have to clean out the chamber? If so, what it the best way to clean it out?
2. After using the Marvel, should the piston or cylinder be able to come out?
3. Once the Marvel oil is out, is there anyway to tell if the issue was resolved before assembling the entire blower?

Thanks again and I really appreciate your patience throughout the education.

Answer
Hi Colin:

Remove the Spark Plug and then Dump the Excess Oil if Any from the Cylinder. Remove the Engines Blower Housing and Using a Socket Work the Engine Back and Forth with the Socket on the Flywheel Nut. If the Piston or Rings have Not Seized to the Cylinder Wall and have Simply Stuck, then the Piston should Move Slightly at First and as you Work the Piston Back and Forth it Should Loosen and Start to Turn Freely. Once the Piston is Turning Freely; Replace the Spark Plug and Try to Start the Engine. You should be Able to Tell if there is Compression Loss. If Not, then have the Compression Checked. You May be 1 of the Lucky Ones and the Engine can be Saved. If Not, then a New Engine or Blower May be Required. Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
