Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda Harmony 1011 Mower, kill switch

Question
My lawnmower will not turn off.  It starts with no problem but the switch will not turn off the motor nor does the seat kill switch work so I must disconnect the sparkplug to turn off.  What could the problem be?

Answer
Hi Norahhollis,

In order to test for this one you need to have a multimeter.  The circuit from your ignition should be grounded when the stop switch is activated.  The kill [or stop] switch would show continuity of 0 ohms when you set the machine to stop using the switch.  There shouldn't be any continuity when the switch is pointed to RUN.   Check to see is there is a problem with any connections going to or from the switch.

Good luck,

Howard
