Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ariens ST824 snowthrower, adjustment screw, ariens st824

Question
Tom,
My question relating to this older Ariens is about a slight fuel leak at the adjustment screw at the bottom of the float bowl.  Fuel does not appear to be leaking from the top of the bowl, just through the screw.

Answer
You'll find it leaking at one of three places, either the float bowl gasket, it's the large one that seals the bowl to the carb. The second is the bolt that goes through the bowl holding it onto the carb, it is a small round paper type gasket. Third would be where the adjustment screw goes into this bolt in the center, there will be a very small rubber o-ring in the center underneath a small metal washer. I would replace all three. Before removing the adjustment screw first screw it all the way in counting the turns, this will provide you with a initial setting to re-install it. Don't turn the screw in hard, damage could occur, just till it seats.........Tom
