Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): oil filter on briggs and stratton 12 HP engine, briggs stratton engine, briggs and stratton

Hello there.
I am trying to refresh my old 38" Rancher mower ( I think is 1987 ) with 12 HP
cast iron bore I/C Briggs & Stratton engine. Does this engine have oil filter and if
does where is it hidden? Also what spark plug and oil should I put and how
much I should put during oil change? Best regards M.P.

Hello M.P.:

This Engine is Called a Flat Head or L-Head Engine. It Did Not Use an Oil Filter. The Spark Plugs that can be Uses in this Engine are Champion CJ8, RCJ8, J19LM, and RJ19LM. The Amount of Oil for the Crankcase is 48oz. You can Use the Chart Provided at this Site Addy; http://www4.briggsandstratton.com/miscPDFs/oil_capacity_chart.pdf .
