Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mover Craftman #917388107, lawn mover, air leak

Question
My lawnmower was smoking and it is only one year old.  The air filter was clogged (really bad) so I put a new one but still it is smoking so do you think maybe I should clean the carburetor.  I remove it and I don’t know what to use.

Thank you

Answer
If you have already remove the carburetor the best thing you can do is take it apart and clean all of the air and fuel passages with the wire from a twist tie then blow them out with carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  Purchase a carburetor kit and new mounting gaskets from Searspartsdirect.com along with new mounting gaskets.  Install the kit and remount carburetor using new mounting gaskets lookup your throttle and governor and choke linkages.  While the carburetor is remove the crankcase breeder from the top of the crankcase check to see if it is full of oil it should not be if it is be sure you do not have an air leak where you put oil into the crankcase or at the crankcase halfs.  Be sure to check your oil level and you should be good to go.  I hope this information is helpful good luck.
