Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 1992 Toro 824 powershift, shaft bearings, thick snow

Question
My had has given me a 1992 toro 824 powershift, model#38540.  He said it would blow fine snow, however when it gets to the thick snow the auger belt comes off.  There is some play in the shaft from the auger to the pulley, maybe 1-2 inches.  Any idea what could be causing the slop in the shaft which causes the belts to come off?

Answer
Auger shaft bearings.  Split the snowblower and remove the belt and pulley.  Dull the auger assembly out the front of the machine by removing the bolts on the sides.  Replace the bearings and reinstall.  Put a new belt in too.

You can go to www.toro.com and click on customer care and then the product center.  Enter the model and serial where it asks and a screen will come up giving one of the options as manuals. Click ion it.  From there you will be able to download the service manual for this blower.
