Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower blades cut on and off, briggs stratton, time patrick

i have a agway riding mower the blade cut on and off if i hold the on switch they will stay on if not they stop? it have a briggs & stratton i/c 18 hp twin 2 engine. thank you for your time Patrick

You have a bad switch or a bad clutch switch I would suggest testing each with a continuity meter to be sure they are operating properly.  If the clutch switch has four terminals it is a double pole double throw switch this means it has two circuits inside of it and both have to operate properly.  I hope this helps.
