Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere self propelled lawnmower JS63 product id No. GXJS63V131117, john deere self, john deere dealership

Question
The mower at present cuts but will not drive. I have replaced thedrive belt and the clutch cable. The wheels turn when I lift the back of the mower but as soon as the wheels are on the ground an d meet any resistance they do not turn. I have been told the transmission could be the problem and this seems to be an expensive repair. This was over the phone from a  John Deere dealership. I am reluctant to spend a lot of money on this mower as it has worked for six years on a half acre very steep site. Do you have any suggestions.

Answer
Before I go replacing a drive train on that I'd be checking the spring that puts tension on the gear box to in turn put tension on the belt. other than that you can do what I would have to do, start disassembling the drive train looking for worn or damaged parts.......Tom
