Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere L120 PTO, john deere l120, old john deere

Question
I have a 4 year old John Deere L120 where PTO switch will not engage the mower. with the reverse override switch pressed, the mower gets engaged when going in reverse.

When I get off the seat, the mower starts engaging and the engine gets switched off.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
I think you are talking about, no mow in reverse safety system.  I do not sink just bypassing the system.

The first thing to check is the seat switch.  The system is designed to shut off if the PTO is engaged, and you leave the operators position.  If the mower engages while in reverse I would suspect you have the switch jumped or it is faulty.  From there I would check every ground in the electrical system.  There will be more than one.  12 V DC should be present at both sides of the switch when it is engaged.  You could just have a loose connector or a bear wire.  I hope this helps.
