Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs and Stratton 8.0 Charging System, briggs and stratton, charging system

Question
How can I put a charging system on an 8HP OHV model 201432, that only has a pull start. The type is 003E1.
Thank you,
Justin

Answer
You have to remove the flywheel.  Are there magnets mounted on the underside of the flywheel?  Are there mounting bosses in the crankcase around the crankshaft?  Mounting bosses are where the stator would mount.  If they are you can by mounting the stator.  If they are not you cannot.  If the flywheel has magnets you can and if not you have to purchase a new one.  The only other way I can think of is to find an externally mounted generator type alternator and try to mount it on the outside of the engine.  This is not very practical.

The main question is why?  If you are trying to charge a battery you need more than just an alternator.  You need DC voltage to charge a battery and a normal alternator produced AC Voltage.  You will need an inline diode to convert the voltage or a rectifier.
