Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): generator trouble, proper fuel, fuel hose

i have a 5250 that surges. cleaned the carb but still will not settle down. what causs this??

If you have auto idle on the generator it could be the problem.  The auto idle brings the engine to idle when there is no load on the engine.  Then when you plug something in the engine speed increases.  Check the brushes in the generator replace if needed.  The other thing that will cause surging is lack of proper fuel flow.  Check the fuel cap vent in tank filter, and fuel hose for restrictions.  From there is would be in the carb.  remove and clean.  replace any worn parts and filters.  If none of this it may be wise to separate the engine from the generator and try it separately.
