Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): weed eater, feeder hose, authorized service center

Question
The tiny hose that connects the carb. to the gas tank on my weed eater (got it at Walmart)is brittle and has broken in two places.  Also, the other hose is completely gone.  I am asuming that the longer hose from the carb. to the tank is the one that supplies the engine with gas.  What is the function of the other hose?  Any tricks about replacing them that I need to know???

Answer
Ricky,

2 Hoses One is the feeder Hose
The other is a Breather hose with a check valve on it to keep the fuel tank out of vapor locking.
Normally the low cost way to get them both replaced is take them to an authorized service center.
the reason is simple removing the Breather hose takes some finagling to get out and back in a Pair Of hemostats with a 90 degree angle comes in handy and shops have them just for this purpose.
Doing it yourself opens up the possibility that if the lines are brittle then the fuel tank is brittle cracking the tank makes it cost you more money.
But say you want to do it yourself
remove the lines from inside the tank out of the fill hole
be sure to take the check valve off and save it
Insert your new Lines from the outside in to the tank Use the Hemos to grab the new lines and pul the in and loop back out to connect the check valve.
then slowly pull the lines back towards you until the sit on the bottom of the tank the intake for the engine line should lay on the bottom of the tank with approx 1" extra
