Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy-Bilt Transmission, speed transaxle, variable speed pulley

Question
Hi John, I have a 3 year old N779 Pony lawn tractor.  When going up a hill, the transmission slips, it tends to jerk when going in to gear, and the other day I was not able to get it in to forward or reverse.  I can't find any information on these shift on the go transmissions.  Is this normal except for not going in to gear?  and how can I get information on working on this if necessary.  I would really appreciate any help you could give.  Thanks!

Answer
Hello Skip:

This is a Model Number 13AN779G766 Pony (2005). After Viewing the Breakdown for this Unit and From your Description it Sounds like the Belts May Require Replacing and the Variable Speed Pulley May Require Cleaning and Light Lubrication. Go to this Site Addy, http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab and Enter the OEM (Troy Bilt)and the Model Numbers (13AN779G766). Now Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. The Transaxle is a Single Speed Transaxle and the Various Speeds are Achieved with the Variable Speed Pulley. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
