Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tecumseh go cart engine, spark plug gap, new spark

My engine's in pretty good shape, but hard to start; when started sometime stalls and is a bugger to re-start.  Has reworked carbeurator in it, new spark plug, new oil.  Is the spark plug gap wrong, possibly?  Could the fuel pump be bad?  How would I check the latter?  Wide open -- when it does run -- it begins to stall.  Could it be filter possibly?  Help!  I have party of teens coming over Saturday!  Thanks
