Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet M60 clutch relay, clutch shoes, cub kadet

Question
I have a 54" Cub Cadet Tank ZTR with at Kawasaki 23HP motor and the PTO will not engage the mower blades.

History:  I bought the mower used in 2007 from a Cub Kadet dealer so don't know the year, but probably a 2005 or 2006.  A few months after I  bought it, my son, then 16, was mowing the yard in dry conditions when he saw smoke coming from the mower deck.  Something had ignited the dry grass and it was smoldering, so he rode it to the nearest standpipe in the yard and hosed it down.  After that, the blades would not engage. I took it back to the dealer, and 2 months and $600 later it was fixed (new PTO clutch)and has run fine.  Last time he mowed, he did not tighten the oil dipstick all the way after checking the oil level and oil sprayed all over the back end of the mower.  I sprayed it down with Gunk and hosed it off, and now the blades will not engage.

I can hear the relay click when I pull up on the blade engagement knob, but nothing happens.

These two instances are the only time the mower has gotten wet, but I can't believe that cleaning with a hose would  take out the PTO.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Answer
If oil got on the clutch the clutch shoes may be damaged.  The fiber pads tend to absorb oil and will slip.

Did you check the belts to ensure they are still on the clutch?  Is anything binding under the deck causing the blades not to turn?

Let me know.
