Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler Command Engine Valve Noise, twin cylinder engine, hydraulic lifters

Question
Dear Mr. Bridgers,
I'm impressed with you knowledge. In your experience does the Kohler Command twin cylinder engine commonly have valve or lifter problems? I have a Scotts 2348 Garden tractor, a replacement tractor because the first one had valve noise that didn't get fixed under warranty so the gave me a new tractor. The second one has done the same thing, but the noise would always go away after the engine ran for awhile, and sometimes it would never make noise. The last I used the tractor the valve noise continued and never quieted down. Is this a valve adjustment problem or have the lifters gone bad?

Answer
Hello Bernard:

Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Mower Breakdown Does Not Give me the Engine Model and Specification Numbers I Require to See if the Engine in Question has the Solid Tappets or the Hydraulic Lifters. Thanks.
