Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): blue smoke, Engine Smoking, Blue Smoke

Question
i have just rebuilt my go-kart engine, ( a 5 hp briggs) and after a few hours of running it it started puffing out lots of blue smoke, then a short time later it was running very rough and stalling alot, i was thinking maybe bad valve guide seals (the piston an rings are brand new) , but it may be the breather due to the fact it sounds like its over-choked all the time when its running

Answer
Hello Mike:

Did you Deglaze the Cylinder? What is the Compression? Did you Set the Valve Clearances Properly? Did you Clean the Crankcase Breather Assembly? Blue Smoke is Caused by too Much Oil Burning in the Engine and Black Smoke is Caused by too Much Gas being Burnt in the Engine. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
