Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda generator, coil tester, honda generator

Question
hello John, I have a honda generator model ems4500 i was using it and it died it seems to have no fire to the plug there are three small wires that comes out of the coil and goes behind the flywheel cover, what do these wires go to   or how can i check out the system on the fire. i assume it has no points. Thanks Don

Answer
Hello Don:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Select the Generator File and Scroll to your Generator Model and Click on it to Download the Breakdown for Online Viewing. This Model has the Exciter Located Under the Flywheel. The CDI (Coil) Leads (the 3 wires you are asking about) go to the Exciter. The Exciter Works in Connection with the CDI (Coil) to Fire the Plug. Usually on this Model the Exciter is the Cause for No Fire, but the CDI can Also be the Cause. I Suggest you Remove the CDI (Coil) and have it Tested. A CD (Coil) Tester is Required to Test the CDI (Coil). If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
