Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere Hyrdo 165 not getting fuel, kawasaki fb460v, mr gasket

Question
Hello,
We are sorry, but BEN wasn't able to answer your question:

I have a Kawasaki FB460V Motor on this mower.  It was starting for a moment when cold and fully choked, then it stopped.  Now it won't start at all (unless your pour gas in the carb.).  I changed the fuel filter and can see gas in the line (due to gravity bringing it from the tank).  I tried removing the fuel filter and cranking the mower.  No fuel comes out.  I tried removing the piece that the line from the fuel filter connects into.  Another line from the engine connects to this too and a 3rd line runs to the carb.  I thought that possibly the small copper looking circle on the side of that piece was clogged.  I checked lines for leakage (except the line under the mower running to the fuel line).

Why do you think fuel is not getting to the carb?

Thanks for your help.  My local repair store has a 6-week wait and I can't seem to get anyone out here to look at it since it's the season for mower breakdown.

Answer
Hello Mike:

The Piece that the Filter Connects to is a Fuel Pump. From your Description it Sounds like the Fuel Pump is Bad. If you Remove the Fuel Line from the Carburetor and Turn the Engine and No Fuel Comes Out of the Line, then the Pump is Not Pumping. Change the Spring Type Clamps to the Screw Type and Make Sure they are Tight. If the Pump Still Does Not Operate, then I Suggest you Replace the Pump. I Usually Replace the Vacuum Pulse Pump with an Electric Pump. A Mr Gasket Part #12-S and the Cost is Around $45.00us. I Connect it to the Ign Switch so it is On when the Ign is in the Run Position and Off when the Ign is in the Off Position. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
