Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman riding lawnmower, battery jumper cables, jumper cable

Question
Hello, I have a lawnmower model #502255532, serial #04123299 and won't start.  the battery is new. I have changed the solenoid.  I believe the starter could be bad? Is there a way of checking to see if the starter is no good?  The replacement starter model #14326092, part #36680 is $130.  But I want to make sure it's shot before I purchase it.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Mrs. Lara

The way to test a starter is you need to take starter out of Engine. Install this in a vise and tighten down so it wont move,Wrap it in something so as not to damage the starter. get a 12 Volt battery and hook it up with a set of battery jumper cables. Take the negative to the frame of the starter and hook up the pos to pos on battery and the neg to neg on battery.

Now be careful when you do this, take the Positive jumper cable and touch the bolt with it. See if it turns or moves it should spin. If it does the starter is good if not Then it is bad. If it turns you may have a bad starter gear on top which can be fixed for a lot less than a new starter.I can get you a starter for $125.00 as these are expensive. Try looking on e-bay for one also.
