Auto Insurance Claims: Cancelling a Filed Claim, Las Vegas Auto Theft SIU Investigation/denial consultant/expert

Question
About 3 weeks ago my wife (on a joint policy) backed into the front of my car in our driveway.  I decided to file a claim for $1,300 (which was a collision), for which I received a check in the mail last week.
Two days after receiving the check, I was driving and a dog ran in front of my car.  I was unable to avoid the dog and my car had damages (comprehensive) on the front end (the same place that my wife's car did damage).  This time the damages were significantly worse, almost $7,000.
Since the original damage was not yet repaired and I have not cashed the check, do I have a right to cancel the first claim, so that I will not have the collision on our record?
Obviously, my concern is over raised premiums, etc.
I am located in Maryland.

Hello,

Unfortunately for you once the check is sent, the claim is already closed. Now, you have a new claim however the comprehensive claim may not count against you and that depends on the insurance company. Deer hits are commonly not counted against the insureds and are considered as there was nothing you could do in your power.

I am not familiar with Maryland insurance claims, but if this happened in Wisconsin or Texas, an animal hit is not considered a claim. Of course in Wisconsin, we have over 1,000,000 deer and any other kind of animal.

Speak with your agent and the agent can confirm or deny this information as it applies to you.
