Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere STX46 Transaxle, dana spicer, transaxles

Question
Hi John, I have a John Deere STX46 build 1995 with a Dana Spicer 4360 68 transaxle. The upper housing is damaged from the pulley shaft but also the shaft itself and the pulley. I was looking for information on the transaxle online with no luck. Instead of repairing the axle I was looking into replacing the whole axle with a new one which is maybe even cheaper since I need a few parts. Do you know which transaxle of the newer models would fit into the STX or replace the 4360-68. Thank you very much for you help. FRANK

Answer
Hello Frank:

I Change a Lot of Transaxles and Most Times I Use the OEM Suggested Replacement. There is No One that Makes an Interchange List for Mower Transaxles. However, you will Find that Most Transaxles will Interchange if the Pulley, Brake/Clutch and Mounting Areas Are the Same. For Information on this Transaxle, You can View a Breakdown of the Transaxle at this Site Addy; http://www.m-and-d.com/dana_foote_parts.html and Scroll Down to the View Dana/Foote Parts Diagram Window. Now Scroll in this Window to your Model Transaxle. Now Click on your Model and Download the PDF File for Online Viewing. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
