Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snow thrower Transmission, aircap industries, tupelo ms

Question
QUESTION: Hi Mr. Bridgers...

I have a Snow Champ snowthrower with an 8 hp Tecumseh engine.
This past season, the transmission does not immediately respond when I shift it into the upper gears (4th, 5th, 6th) and engage the traction. I'm beginning to notice this on some of the lower gears. I also notice when I lift the machine from the back, the wheels will spin freely. I took the bottom plate off and can't see anything obvious to my problem. What should I be looking for...or is it beyond that point? Thank you for any advice you can offer.  --Ron D.

QUESTION: Hi John,

Here are the numbers I found on the back of the machine. Hope this is what you need:

PJ606/8481/H189B
Aircap Industries Tupelo MS

Thanks again
Ron

Answer
Hello Again Ron:

Thanks for the Model Numbers. From your Description you Need to Check the Driven Disc and the Drive Disc. If the Rubber is Worn (or has Sections Missing) on the Driven Disc or the Steel Drive Disc has Wide Grooves in it from the Rubber Driven Disc, this will Allow the Wheels to Turn Freely as you Described. The Hesitation to Engage can be the in the Disc Area Also, but it can be the Drive Chain has Stretched. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
