Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet parts, cub cadet parts, oem parts

Question
I am giving my HDS 2165 riding mower a spring tune-up for the first time and need to purchase replacement parts (air, oil, fuel, and transmission filters, PTO drive belt, spark plugs, & transmission oil).

Do you recommend buying only BS and Cub Cadet OEM parts?

Can you offer any reputable websites to purchase the parts or should I go to my nearest small engine repair shop to buy the parts?

Also, any tips on performing this spring tune-up? Tractor runs well but needs some preventative maintenance.

Thanks!

Answer
I prefer to use OEM parts but many of the aftermarket parts are just as good and some are even better than OEM.

If the unit is still under warranty ONLY use OEM parts.  I would start by calling local shops and see if they have parts in stock.  If the do not have the parts in stock it is just as easy, and sometimes cheaper depending on the price of gas and your time, to order the parts and have them delivered to you door.

MTDProducts.com and the Briggs site have excellent websites making it easy to find the parts you need.

As for tips, take your time, take digital pictures before you remove the belt and draw a diagram so you know it goes back together...love digital cameras.
Let me know if this helps.
