Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Transmatic lawn tractor, variable speed pulley, tension spring

Question
MTD lawn tractor model 13ad678go34 when riding on tractor it will just stop moving.Engin runs fine when this happens. If I depress the clutch/brake and release it trans will catch and move again for a while. Also if I put in in reverse and back in forward it will start to move again. I can be moving at any speed and this will happen. Some times it happens as soon as I begin to cut lawn or it may not happen for 30 minutes or so. any help or suggestions is appreciated

Answer
Hello Vince:

The Problem you Described is Usually Caused by the Variable Speed Pulley, the Belt or the Tension Spring. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Unit at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (MTD) and Enter the Model Numbers (13AD678G034). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Unit you Wish to View. The Transmission is a Single Speed and the Different Ground Speeds are Achieved Using the Variable Speed Pulley. Check the Variable Speed Pulley and the Tension Spring. Make Sure the Belts are Good. The Center Sheave is Moving Freely on the Pulley Shaft. Make Sure the Tension Spring has Good Tension and is Pulling on the Idler Properly. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
