Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): yard machine snow thrower, flange bearing, forward gears

Question
I have a yard machine snow thrower, model# 31AE665E118 and I am having a drive problem. It has 5 forward gears and two reverse and no matter which gear I select, the lever won't stay in the gear I select and slides all the way to the 5th gear.

Answer
Hello John:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, and Select Shop Online Parts and Accessories. Now Select the Model Tab. Select the OEM (MTD) and Enter the Model Numbers (31AE665E118). Now Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select the Frive File. Now Enlarge the Breakdown a Few Times. You need to Make Sure that the Flange Bearing (#34) is Not Worn on Either Side. This throughs the Shaft at a Angle and Causes the Problem you Described. Make Sure All the Bushings and Bearings are in Good Condition. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
