Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler Tractor Problem, hose clamps, gravity feed

Question
I have a Craftsman tractor with an 18HP Kohler engine.  Over the past couple of years every time I cut the grass on a hill, there doesn't appear to be enough fuel to run the engine and it stops.  I back down to level ground and it starts no problem.  I replaced the fuel filter but am thinking now it may be the angle of the rubber fuel line from the tank to the filter.  Would it be a good idea to just remove and cut back the line a bit so there is constant fuel going to the filter?

Answer
Hello Steve:

What is Happening is, the Gas Tank and Gas is Getting Higher than the Carburetor Bowl and the Gravity Feed of the Gas to the Carburetor Stops and the Engine Quits. If this Engine has a Fuel Pump, then Check the Hose Clamps and Fuel Lines for Cracks. Replace the Fuel Lines if Cracked. If All this is OK, then Replace the Fuel Pump. I Usually Suggest to Owners with this Problem that they Install a 2-4psi or 4-7psi Electric Pulse Pump. This Assures Fuel to the Carburetor at All Levels of Work and the Pressure is the Same as a Vacuum Operated Fuel Pump. Use Only Screw Type Hose Clamps and Re-Tighten if Required After the First Time the Unit has Been Operated for at Least 15 Minutes. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
