Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): generators, coleman powermate, briggsandstratton

Question
QUESTION: I have a Coleman Powermate Pulse 1000. The engine runs great it produces no electricity. Any ideas. It was stored for 5 years. When I started it, I hooked up a drill to it for testing purposes. It ran the drill for about 10 seconds and nothing since.

ANSWER: Did the circuit breaker trip?  If, have you reset the circuit breatker.

Are the brushes contacting the commutator?  Did a mouse chew up any of the internal wiring?

Do you have any experience with generators?  If not, research the internet before dis-assembling to get an understanding of how they work.

Let me about the questions.

QUESTION: Hello Eric,

I would like to thank you for your response!! As far as I can see----there is no circuit breaker. It does have a reset button. I tried to use it but found it to be broken. I by passed the reset button for testing purposes and it still had no electricity. The brushes seem to be fine. Nothing wrong with any wiring that I can see. I don't have any experience with generators but I am very mechanically inclined. I have checked on the internet for a wiring skematic but couldn't find one. That is why I posted my question. I bought the generator from a fellow employee and he only used for 4 hours before putting it in storage. What ever input you can give me would be muchly appreciated. Thank you!!

Here is general wiring diagrams from Briggs:

The links below desribe how to flash the generator.

Have you removed the end cap and checked the brushes?  If you have ever rebuilt an alternator, the process if very similar.

Let me know if flashing fixes the problem.
