Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Chainsaw clutch repair, clutch shoes, clutch assembly

Question
Hey John,

I am glad you are the expert, as I have a followup question
to the one you answered regarding the removal of the clutch
assembly on the 20" Craftsman chain saw.  First,  you answered that part of my question of how to remove the clutch.  Second, you said to "hit the clutch ear sharply."
My question is where is the clutch ear and where on the ear do you hit it with the chisel? (Your answer orig. 1/6/2008)
Thank you,
Jim

Answer
Hi Jim:

Looking at your Picture you Sent me, the Ears are Located in the Middle of the Clutch Shoes. Hope that Explains it Better. Thanks.

Hello Jim:

The Clutch Ear is the Thick Portion of the Clutch Assembly that Screws Onto the Crankshaft and Springs Holding the Clutch Shoes to the Clutch Assembly. Look at the Threaded Section of the Clutch and you can See that the Clutch Assembly is a Thick Bar that Screws Onto the Crankshaft. Hit the Outer Portion of this Bar. To View a Breakdown of this Unit Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and Click Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. Select the Chassis File. You can See the Ears Clearly in the Breakdown (#21). If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
