Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): carburator cleaning, combustion chamber, model st

Question
I have an old, but little used homelite trimmer model ST-80 which has been in my garage for many years. I cleaned it up. It will run if I put gas directly into the spark plug port, but then it stops. It won't run otherwise. I assume the carb is plugged. Is there somewhere I can read about how to  clean and check the fuel path to the combustion chamber?

THANKS a Mil

Answer
Taking one of these little carburetors apart is not child's play. There are some tiny parts in there and if you lose them you many need to replace the whole carburetor. You may be able to find a diagram of your carburetor if you go to company's site of the who made the carburetor. It should be Walbro or Zama.
