Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda Carb not running well, carburetor problems, ethanol gas

Question
QUESTION: Hello John,
I asked you last Spring how to prevent the $65 carb cleaning/overhaul service bill. You had suggested to run 3-4 oz of fuel stabilizer to prevent a gummed up bowl/carb. I had planned to do this in Nov., but procrastinated 4 weeks since my last use. Now it's doing the same thing. I tried suggestion, but to no avail. The shop I have used the past two years claims ethanol in the gas nowadays is presenting this problem moreso than in the past. Apparently ethanol draws in moisture and dilutes fuel. Anyhow, I took the advice of a few experts and cleaned carb (disassembled and sprayed carb cleaner, not bathed. I plan to do this, this weekend), replaced with new air filter, oil and plug. Once I got it to start again, it's now reving up and nearly stalling before it revs up again. I can see the linkage and springs moving back and forth trying to keep it running. When I start it, the automatic choke rotates to non choke or open position if termed correctly and with the air filter off, I can see it is open. But the linkage above the carb is constantly moving causing the engine to rev and nearly stall. What may cause this and how do I solve? BTW< I can't seem to locate the ID numbers for the Honda engine, just what seems to be Husqvarna's.
Thanks,

ANSWER: Hello Steve:

I Usually Suggest Running 2 Cycle Fuel Mix through the Tank and Carburetor before Draining the Tank and then Running the Engine Until the Carburetor is Empty. This is the Best way to Store a Small Engine. I Never Store a Small Engine for Over 2 Weeks if it has the Ethanol Gas in the Tank. Ethanol Does Draw Moisture and Causes Many Carburetor Problems if Left in an Un-Used Carburetor. This Allows the Oil in the Fuel Mix to Coat the Internal Components and Passages of the Carburetor and Protect them from Corrosion. Stabil is Good for Prolonging the Life of the Gas. You Correct the Problem you are Having, You are Going to have to Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). I have Found that Most People can Use a Breakdown/IPL and Disassemble the Carburetor Enough for Proper Cleaning. You Only have to Remove the Bowl, Float Pin, Float (if Applicable)  and Needle Valve and Any Adjustment Screws that Go Into the Carburetor Body. The Welch Plugs Do Not have to be Removed. Then Soak the Carburetor Body and Parts in a 1 Gallon Can of Gunk Carburetor Cleaner Overnight. The Can has a Parts Tray Inside it for the Small Parts. Once the Carburetor and Parts are in the Cleaner, you can Replace the Lid for Safety and to Prevent Accidental Spillage. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Parts if Required. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram and Select the Catalog American Honda. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: Thanks John. Can you tell me how where to find the Honda engine numbers needed to view Breakdown/IPL on my Husqvarna? I have disassemble like you suggested and will soak overnight. One or two gaskets could use replacing, but I'll try it for now as the shop is inconveniently located. If this doesn't work, at least I tried.
